I find Spring to be very refreshing.
It makes me slow down,
take time to do nothing,
and remember to breath.
Breath in fresh air that smells like wet dirt and dormant grass. Breath in cold air and soak in warm sunshine that I haven't felt in months. I drool over every flower bouquet in the grocery store, and get goosebumps from wearing short sleeves and sandals too soon. When the weather turns cold again for a day or two I grumble when I have to put "real" shoes back on.
Being outside makes us more thoughtful. It gives us more courage than sitting behind a desk, or ordering from our cars in the drive thru. Nature is full of reminders to be bold and outgoing. Spring is a time for reacquainting ourselves with friendliness. Many times retraining ourselves to be out-of-the-way kind and friendly.
A Bloom of Thoughtfulness
It's sad the way our social world has become rude and unseeing to real people but shares with no reserve their personal lives to the almost surreal world of social media and the world wide web. I challenge you to find reason to go out of your way be thoughtful. Use the blooming flowers around you this spring to remind you to be thoughtful. Each time you see a flower, survey your surrounding and find someone nearby that you could do something thoughtful for. Just making eye contact and giving a smile might encourage them. Especially an older person who is "out of the loop" with this crazy technological world and it's young people.A Bloom of Thankfulness
Okay so I have to be honest that this was the original title of the post, but I created the graphic with the wrong word and it was too difficult to go back and change the word. But I think these two word - Thoughtfulness and Thankfulness - go together like puzzle pieces. How can you be thankful without being thoughtful? How can you be thoughtful without being thankful?
I find Fall to be a sister to Spring and find a thankful heart to be more on my mind when flowers are blooming and birds are singing rather than a table full of turkey stuffed family members. (not that I'm not thankful during Thanksgiving also) Please grab a scrap of paper and list out the numbers 1-10 and then take a moment and think of 10 things that your are truly thankful for.
1) Refreshing Spring season
2) The ability to slow down and do nothing (Owning my time)
3) The ability to breath and the sweet fragrances of Spring
4) The sensation of touch and feeling and how we can feel the warmth of the sun
5) Flowers - wild or supermarket bouquets, mine or yours!
6) Open-toed shoes and NO shoes!
7) People, personalities and all the variations
8) Imaginations, thoughts, and the ability to convey them to others
9) Thoughtful people who are all around us
10) Thankful people who ooze thankful spirits
