A Little Seed - A Big Forest (catching lies before they grow)

I was speaking with a new acquaintance yesterday and she was sharing with me how so many people can allow little things in their lives to grow into monsterous problems.  Little things we overhear or tell ourselves, little things we imagine and some that we are told right out by others. Those little things are a seed that we take hold of and think we should believe. A little seed that we give over to the devil to plant in our hearts to grow into a huge problem.
Anytime we allow something to pass through our thoughts, we also are making a choice whether or not to believe that thought. But can I suggest that we take it a step farther and ask God if we should believe that thought or not. It's not worth letting something slip, allowing yourself to believe something about yourself that isn't true, to grow a tree of mistrust within yourself. Because as these little lies start to grow, and there are probably more than one they will turn into a forest of lies that block out the color of God's creation. They will block out the kindness of others and the understanding of life. These lies will take root and ruin your foundation on God's Word.

But probably at this point in life we have already grown that forest whether we realized it or not. So how can we cut down this forest of lies? Prayer - always start with prayer. Maybe there is no one to trust, no human on earth that you feel could hold your words securely. But God is good, God is kind, and understanding - He is the perfect Father. Even though maybe you don't feel secure with God, take a moment and read some of His promises (there are many) and see just how much He loves you and desires to use you for His glory. Pray and ask God to show you these lies and big or small as they may be, then ask Him to help you forgive them, forget them, and move on. Find God's promises to stand on in their place - rebuild that foundation that has been allowed to be destroyed. Set aside time each day to read a promise of God and then take that promise with you everywhere you go that day.

Rebuilding after a fire or a flood is not an easy task, but allow God to purge your heart and burn out the lies that have grown. Then you will have a foundation ready to rebuild a lasting relationship with God and with those you have been shutting out.

Let's take a moment today to think about our heart's foundation...consider how you have allowed it to form. Is there some purging to be done? Are their relationships to rebuild? How is your standing with God? Do you trust Him? Do you trust anyone? Look back and find lies that you have allowed yourself to believe, crush them with the Lord's help and let the color of life shine back through!

How to Make Your Apartment More Homey - Part 5

Welcome to part 5 of my mini series "How to Make Your Apartment More Homey". Once you get a grasp on the first four topics you've really got something going for you. These last two steps are definitely not the meat of the problem.  Today we will focus on - The Color Palette. A little bit of color theory wouldn't hurt anyone. I realize that we are alway feeling the need to try something new and be a little different. It's called fashion, and that's okay. Be different! Make a statement! It's good to try something new. But if it's ugly just say so, don't lie to save your pride. Your pride has already been painted all over that new yellow couch!  You can google a basic color wheel and the different ways to pair the colors or most people have an eye for what looks good together. It's usually a good thing to stick with the same hue (bold with bold, or pastels with pastels, and burnt colors with burnt colors) but even that isn't alwa...

42 Questions To Ask Your Spouse On Valentine's Day

If you and your spouse were on the Newlywed game show... would you win? My husband and I are going to a couple's retreat next month and decided to get a head start on it by brushing up on our newlywed gameshow questions. We actually did pretty well the first time through, but we keep giving each other pop quizzes to keep the answers fresh in our minds. Below I've made a list of common couples questions that you and your spouse might find fun to ask each other. 1) What is your spouse's all time favorite movie? 2) What would your spouse request as their "last meal"? 3) What is your spouse's favorite pastime? 4) What percentage of housework would your husband say he does? 5) What flavor of cake did you have at your wedding? 6) What is your spouse's ideal date night? 7) Excluding people, what would your spouse say is their most prized possession? 8) At what specific sport or game will you wife say she is better than you? 9) What is your spouse...

Spring Cleaning Challenge Day 6 Psalm 51:10

Welcome to your first day of rest. Tomorrow is Sunday, a day that should be put aside to worship the Lord and to rest your body from physical activity. Each Sunday we will meditate on a verse that reflects having a clean heart. Because we all know that a spotless house doesn't make us truly happy. Only a clean heart can keep a smile on our faces. Psalm 51:10  Create in me a clean heart, O God,  and renew a right spirit within me.  What does a clean heart look like? Who judges wether the heart is clean or not? Who cares about your heart more than anyone else? Just like we have been pulling out our furniture this week looking for dust bunnies, take a moment to pull out the furniture in your life and look for "Me" bunnies. Search out your heart for selfish things you've tucked away, whether it be a secret, a personal pleasure, a blatant sin, or an old heartache.  When you've found them, take them all one by one and lay them out in a straight row in front of...
