Spring Booklist for Women

I have been in crazy-cat reading mode this winter and I've read a ridiculous amount of books. I would like to share my favorites with you here and encourage you to read some healthy books full of knowledge. A lot of people waste their time reading frivolous novels and filling their minds with unhealthy thoughts. But books can really get you thinking and can also encourage and uplift. My list consists of multiple different genres and reading levels so be prepared for  a little craziness!

Biographies:

Bonhoeffer-Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy (Find it on Amazon)

[This is a big book - 542pages - but well worth the read. Written by New-York Times best selling author, Eric Metaxas about Dietrich Bonhoeffer's life duringWWII and attempts to stop Hitler.  It's not boring or boggy, it reads like an oversized novel.]

Joni - An Unforgettable Story (Find it on Amazon)

[The life story of Joni Eareckson Tada written by Joni. She is very open about her struggles in accepting her handicap and also very open about how God changed her attitude and outlook on life.]

Novel:

The Scarlet Pimpernel (Find it on Amazon)

[A classic written by Baroness Emmuska Orczy. The movies made of this book are nothing in comparison to reading the book - which is usually always the case - a short and quick read packed full or fun history and action. It has a great plot twist at the end too!]

Self Help - Christian and Other

Choosing Gratitude - Your Journey to Joy (Find it on Amazon)

[It's so good I read it twice, but not both this winter. Nancy Leigh DeMoss is a great author writing on subjects and problems all women face. This book also includes a 30 Day Devotional.]

Having a Mary Heart In a Martha World - Finding Intimacy With God In The Busyness of Life (Find it on Amazon)

[Joanna Weaver has put such great perspective in this book. Sure we could have thought of all of it too - but we didn't. I love her illustrations as they help me keep the book real even after I've put it back on the shelf. Includes a 12 week companion bible study]

Say Goodbye To Survival Mode (Find it on Amazon)

[It's not just about the clutter, because this neat freak throughly enjoyed the book and learned a lot of good things. Crystal Paine from moneysavingmom.com  laid out 9 simple strategies to stress less, sleep more, and restore your passion for life.]

Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full (Find it on Amazon)

[I purchased this because of someone else's booklist a month or two ago and was wowed at the impact it made. Gloria Furman - A new author to me - takes motherhood to a whole new level. This isn't a book full of tips and tricks for bible reading or motherhood or anything of the kind, it's about Seeing God everywhere in every action of your day. I would recommend this book to anyone - mother or not. This book isn't in my cover picture because it's loaned out right now...it's that good, I couldn't keep it to myself!]

Financial

The Total Money Makeover (Find it on Amazon)

[I know everybody talks about Dave Ramsey, but it's because he has a simple, no fail plan. It's the easiest financial read I've ever read. And you don't have to be in debt to get something from this book either. There are 7 baby steps listed throughout the book that you can follow to get out of debt and handle your money more wisely.]

So what do you think? Are you going to pick up a few more books from the library or Amazon to read this Spring? Are you ready to learn and change and grow your life? Be ready to be encouraged, to laugh, cry, and feel great!

What are some great books you've read recently? I would love to hear about them and maybe get a chance to read them!

Thanks to Amazon for the book cover photos and links to every book. It's such a great site!

How to Make Your Apartment More Homey - Part 5

Welcome to part 5 of my mini series "How to Make Your Apartment More Homey". Once you get a grasp on the first four topics you've really got something going for you. These last two steps are definitely not the meat of the problem.  Today we will focus on - The Color Palette. A little bit of color theory wouldn't hurt anyone. I realize that we are alway feeling the need to try something new and be a little different. It's called fashion, and that's okay. Be different! Make a statement! It's good to try something new. But if it's ugly just say so, don't lie to save your pride. Your pride has already been painted all over that new yellow couch!  You can google a basic color wheel and the different ways to pair the colors or most people have an eye for what looks good together. It's usually a good thing to stick with the same hue (bold with bold, or pastels with pastels, and burnt colors with burnt colors) but even that isn't alwa...

42 Questions To Ask Your Spouse On Valentine's Day

If you and your spouse were on the Newlywed game show... would you win? My husband and I are going to a couple's retreat next month and decided to get a head start on it by brushing up on our newlywed gameshow questions. We actually did pretty well the first time through, but we keep giving each other pop quizzes to keep the answers fresh in our minds. Below I've made a list of common couples questions that you and your spouse might find fun to ask each other. 1) What is your spouse's all time favorite movie? 2) What would your spouse request as their "last meal"? 3) What is your spouse's favorite pastime? 4) What percentage of housework would your husband say he does? 5) What flavor of cake did you have at your wedding? 6) What is your spouse's ideal date night? 7) Excluding people, what would your spouse say is their most prized possession? 8) At what specific sport or game will you wife say she is better than you? 9) What is your spouse...

Spring Cleaning Challenge Day 6 Psalm 51:10

Welcome to your first day of rest. Tomorrow is Sunday, a day that should be put aside to worship the Lord and to rest your body from physical activity. Each Sunday we will meditate on a verse that reflects having a clean heart. Because we all know that a spotless house doesn't make us truly happy. Only a clean heart can keep a smile on our faces. Psalm 51:10  Create in me a clean heart, O God,  and renew a right spirit within me.  What does a clean heart look like? Who judges wether the heart is clean or not? Who cares about your heart more than anyone else? Just like we have been pulling out our furniture this week looking for dust bunnies, take a moment to pull out the furniture in your life and look for "Me" bunnies. Search out your heart for selfish things you've tucked away, whether it be a secret, a personal pleasure, a blatant sin, or an old heartache.  When you've found them, take them all one by one and lay them out in a straight row in front of...
