Artist Party

I love a good party! Today's theme is art/artist/crafty. I hope you get some great ideas to pull off your own Artist Party!

I finally got my porch decor updated to some sunny yellow pansies and a red rainboot I found! The three little pots are mint - Spearmint, Peppermint, & Sweet mint. We have a enormous amount of spiders living on our porch and hope to help them find a new home!

This particular party was set for 7-12 people. It was a highly involved party so I gave out invitations with RSVP's.
We ate some great food, but I have to say I'm used to pulling the theme into the food and I couldn't find a healthy way to get artist into the food. Every artist party I saw was for children and involved a ridiculous amount of sugar. So we simply had a gourmet Artists' Luncheon...

LUNCHEON:
Drinks: Chick-fil-A Lemonade, Ice-water (“Creative Juices”)
Food:
Build your own bagel - bagel thins, deli meat, onion &chive cream cheese spread, spinach, tomatoes, bacon, avocado
Broccoli Salad
Blue and Regular tortilla chips with Tex-Mex corn dip (“Paint Chips”)
Dessert:
Sugar cookie mini fruit pizzas
Strawberry shortcake

Next we filled our time with silly games that were fun and cheap (although if you can afford to do a real artists' party with canvases, paints, etc... everyone will love you!)

As soon as the guests arrived they were given a new name from the artist name generator and 5 art bucks. They had to use their art name the entire party and if they got caught using anyones real name they lost $1. You can also get art bucks by winning games and contests. At the end of the party the person with the most money won a bouquet of flowers  The person who has the backward Van Gogh on his money wins a bag of chocolate!

Dixit is a German game that is a crazy cross between Balderdash and Apples to Apples. It's full of crazy, artsy, and psychedelic cards.

Another game was Pin the Smile on Mona Lisa - obviously a spin off of Pin the Tail on the Donkey!

The most "artsy" thing we did was a stencil drawing. I gathered together all of my scrapbooking stencils and my daughter's stencils. Each contestant was required to use a least one stencil on their page but from there it was open to creativity! At the end we voted on our favorite picture. Here are a few of our renowned artists!! :)

The Artist Matching game was a tuff one. We had a powerpoint of the famous painting and we had to decided which artist we thought painted it. Just a fun multiple choice/matching game. Rather hard though, I didn’t know a lot of them, I just know the names!!
We played a game I called "Know Your Neighbor". Each person brought something like this to the party
When Sarah reads a book does she choose:
  • Sci-fi
  • Biography
  • Romance
One answer is right, two are wrong.

It is always fun to learn new and funny things about your friends. Whether they are new friends or life long there is always something new you can learn about them!

Party prizes and favors are always fun. And they don't have to be expensive.

What would you add to an Artists' Party?

How to Make Your Apartment More Homey - Part 5

Welcome to part 5 of my mini series "How to Make Your Apartment More Homey". Once you get a grasp on the first four topics you've really got something going for you. These last two steps are definitely not the meat of the problem.  Today we will focus on - The Color Palette. A little bit of color theory wouldn't hurt anyone. I realize that we are alway feeling the need to try something new and be a little different. It's called fashion, and that's okay. Be different! Make a statement! It's good to try something new. But if it's ugly just say so, don't lie to save your pride. Your pride has already been painted all over that new yellow couch!  You can google a basic color wheel and the different ways to pair the colors or most people have an eye for what looks good together. It's usually a good thing to stick with the same hue (bold with bold, or pastels with pastels, and burnt colors with burnt colors) but even that isn't alwa...

42 Questions To Ask Your Spouse On Valentine's Day

If you and your spouse were on the Newlywed game show... would you win? My husband and I are going to a couple's retreat next month and decided to get a head start on it by brushing up on our newlywed gameshow questions. We actually did pretty well the first time through, but we keep giving each other pop quizzes to keep the answers fresh in our minds. Below I've made a list of common couples questions that you and your spouse might find fun to ask each other. 1) What is your spouse's all time favorite movie? 2) What would your spouse request as their "last meal"? 3) What is your spouse's favorite pastime? 4) What percentage of housework would your husband say he does? 5) What flavor of cake did you have at your wedding? 6) What is your spouse's ideal date night? 7) Excluding people, what would your spouse say is their most prized possession? 8) At what specific sport or game will you wife say she is better than you? 9) What is your spouse...

Spring Cleaning Challenge Day 6 Psalm 51:10

Welcome to your first day of rest. Tomorrow is Sunday, a day that should be put aside to worship the Lord and to rest your body from physical activity. Each Sunday we will meditate on a verse that reflects having a clean heart. Because we all know that a spotless house doesn't make us truly happy. Only a clean heart can keep a smile on our faces. Psalm 51:10  Create in me a clean heart, O God,  and renew a right spirit within me.  What does a clean heart look like? Who judges wether the heart is clean or not? Who cares about your heart more than anyone else? Just like we have been pulling out our furniture this week looking for dust bunnies, take a moment to pull out the furniture in your life and look for "Me" bunnies. Search out your heart for selfish things you've tucked away, whether it be a secret, a personal pleasure, a blatant sin, or an old heartache.  When you've found them, take them all one by one and lay them out in a straight row in front of...
